Fire or False Alarm!

This past weekend, I met my family in Dallas to attend my cousins wedding. The wedding was nice and simple. Afterwards we headed back to the hotel (which shall remain nameless) to unwind and let the kids hangout. We didn't get to bed until close to 1 a.m., but at 2:30 we woke up to the fire alarm going off. Not really knowing whether it was the real thing or a false alarm we gathered the children and left immediately. After 30 minutes of trying to staying warm (cause it was like 45 degrees) in my brothers suburban and with four fire trucks and two rescue vehicles on the scene, they finally allowed everyone to go back to their rooms. Apparently there was smoke on the fifth floor. We were on the fourth floor! I still don't know whether or not there was a fire or the hotel heater that set off the smoke detectors. Let this experience serve as a lesson to all of us to always be ready, because lets face it we just never know...

Rat Race:

Why is it that we (ME) get so easily stuck in a "vicious cycle" (thanks Heber) of complacency??? Everyday I find myself doing the same things. The only thing different is the date on the calendar. There is so much to be done. Is it just me or are there not enough hours in the day. Please rescue me off this lonely island and tell me I'm not alone. Time is wasted and relationships take a back seat all the while we find any reason to justify our actions. If you are like me and want something besides the mundane routines we live then I can only offer those two classic yet simple words:.........."Carpe Diem"

"The Limits of God's grace"

recently read an article by Bart Campolo in "The Journal of Student Ministries" where he speaks of the limits of God's grace and I can't imagine there being a place where the grace of God couldn't find me...... I thank God there isn't a place His grace can't reach. All throughout scripture we see this played out where we (as a people) run from the leadership of God (Sin) and in His mercy, He comes chasing after us (grace). Even in life, we often ask "why bad things happen to good people?" Campolo states it this way......"I don't believe God is fully in control of this world yet. Heck, God is not fully in control of me yet, even when I want God to be - so how could I possibly believe that God is making all the bad stuff happen out there in the streets?" All I know is that if I know where I've been and if the grace of God found me, He can and will find you where ever you may be!

Snapshot with the Guys from SYM:

Rose and I couldn't help but grab a snap shot with Doug Fields and Josh Griffin from Simply Youth Ministry. As goofy as it sounds, these guys were sooo cool. If you get a chance check out their video podcast at: www.simplyyouthministry.com You won't regret it!

Where do I begin??? There are so many things going through my head that I get overwhelmed. Especially since just returning from YS National Youth Workers Convention. Don't get me wrong it was a blast. It was so good just to have that fellowship time with other Youth Workers knowing that we're all in this together. I just wish it was more often than once a year. If anyone reading hasn't ever attended a National Youth Workers Convention and you work with your Student Ministry than you are missing out on the time of your life....... not to mention a blessing from God. YS ROCKS!
